Started in 2015 as a solo project of singer-songwriter Laura Karels, Bee Balm Fields has grown into a must-see group that’s helping shape the varied and lush Southern Minnesota music scene. Karels’ vocals and songwriting remain the driving force of the band’s refined Americana-tinged rock sound featuring Pete Klug (guitar), Ben Scruggs (bass), and Eric Bunde (drums).

Recorded live in the studio, Bee Balm Fields’ latest full-length and first vinyl offering, Whiskey Walkin’, is a collection of originals and staples of their live sets. In it, Karels’ powerful voice soothes and soars, Klug’s always-inventive guitar work hits dynamic new heights, while Scruggs & Bunde’s dialed-in rhythmic interplay propels everything along.

Karels’ songs draw inspiration from her life and the landscape in southern Minnesota. But just as the Minnesota River flows through the area to join the Mississippi, so too do Karels’ songs speak to and connect with much larger, universal themes of love, loss, friendship, adventure, the blues, and, yes, whiskey. Lots of whiskey. Over the course of the album's ten songs, it becomes clear why Bee Balm Fields affect audiences of any size. Positioned in the darkened corner of a local bar or on a stage at a summer festival, the band’s music is wholeheartedly human.

From the songwriting to the vinyl pressing: Whiskey Walkin’ is 100 percent Minnesota made. Get onboard and get balmy!
